Muni train derails to halt SF subway service in the Castro

Muni’ s subway service was blocked Friday morning at Castro Street due to a train derailment, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said. Shuttles will be running from West Portal to Church Station while the delay persists, and officials encouraged commuters to take Muni Metro alternatives, like the F-Market and Wharves, to travel along Market Street. “Crews working to clear the train, but delay could last through rush hour,” the SFMTA said on Twitter. The subway is running from Church to Embarcadero, said Paul Rose, a Muni spokesman. The N Judah and J Church lines are unaffected. Sophie Haigney is a San Francisco Chronicle staff writer.
