Forecasts for warm temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds through Saturday spurred the National Weather Service to issue a red-flag warning for the hills of Napa and Sonoma counties and advise residents still recovering from October’s historic infernos to take precautions. The warning is to be in effect from 11 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday. The most vulnerable areas are higher elevations in Napa County and the eastern hills of Sonoma County, officials said. The areas are expected to see above-average temperatures and northeast gusts of wind as strong as 40 mph.

Three fires broke out near the Concord-Walnut Creek border, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Each fire is burning a half-acre to an acre of grass and firefighters are currently responding. Video footage shows golden grass hills burning off Ygnacio Valley Road on the border of Concord and Walnut Creek. Firetrucks have been stationed near homes close to the fire, but evacuations have not been ordered, said Steve Aubert, a spokesperson for the fire district. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area of Ygnacio Valley Road and Oak Grove Road. Eastbound Oak Grove Road is closed and will require a detour of traffic for an unknown amount of time.

The collision occurred just before 5:30 a.m. near the Broadway on-ramp on the westbound lanes of Highway 24, according to the California Highway Patrol. Three westbound lanes were shut down as emergency crews responded to the scene. One westbound lane was open during the early morning commute. A silver Chevrolet Tahoe crashed into the center divider and then into a white Honda, authorities said. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the roadway, CHP said.

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court said Tuesday that pregnancy centers established to convince women to continue their pregnancies do not have to tell their clients about the availability of state-offered services, including abortion. The court's conservatives said a California law likely violates the First Amendment. It required what are called crisis pregnancy centers - they promise prenatal care and help when the child is born - to post notices or tell clients about the state's service. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the 5 to 4 decision. He said that the "government-drafted script" specifically mentions abortion - "the very practice that petitioners are devoted to opposing.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld President Donald Trump's ban on travel from several mostly Muslim countries, rejecting a challenge that it discriminated against Muslims or exceeded his authority. The 5-4 decision Tuesday is the court's first substantive ruling on a Trump administration policy, and the president quickly tweeted his reaction: "Wow!" Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by his four conservative colleagues. Roberts wrote that presidents have substantial power to regulate immigration. He also rejected the challengers' claim of anti-Muslim bias. But he was careful not to endorse either Trump's provocative statements about immigration in general or Muslims in particular.

On a Sunday morning that was too hot for leather, the chaps were out in force anyway, as the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Rally prepared to make its 48th consecutive annual march up Market Street. Some 50,000 marchers were expected, along with 100,000 onlookers, making Pride the largest event in California, according to Digital Third Coast, which ranks events in every state according to crowd size. The Pride parade runs from the Embarcadero to the Civic Center, and is kicked off by Dykes on Bikes revving their motorcycles to rattle windows in the Financial District canyon. Before the 10:30 a.m. send-off, the bikes were all quiet at the start point, Market and Beale.

The photo of the little girl crying as a U.S. Border Patrol agent patted down her mother became a symbol of the families pulled apart by the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy at the border, even landing on the cover of Time Magazine. But the father of the girl confirmed to The Washington Post Thursday night that the child and mother were not separated. The heart-wrenching image, captured by award-winning Getty Images photographer John Moore, was spread across the front pages of internationalnewspapers. It was used to promote a fundraiser that has collected more than $18 million to help reunite separated families.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on immigration legislation (all times local): 11:45 a.m. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Democrats and the news media exploited for political purposes a widely circulated photograph of a 2-year-old Honduran girl as her mother is searched near the U.S.-Mexico border. It was widely assumed the toddler and her mother had been separated under President Donald Trump's now-rescinded policy that resulted in separating families entering the U.S. illegally. But the girl's father told The Washington Post on Thursday that his daughter and her mother are together. Sanders tweeted Friday: "It's shameful that dems and the media exploited this photo of a little girl to push their agenda.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — President Donald Trump's order to stop separating migrant children from their parents spread confusion along the border, with officials still working on a plan to reunite families while sending conflicting signals about the state of the administration's "zero tolerance" policy. Parents who remained locked up struggled to get in touch with children being held in many cases hundreds of miles away. Some said they didn't even know where their children were. Others said they had been deported without them. Trump himself took a hard line on the crisis, accusing the Democrats of telling "phony stories of sadness and grief." "We cannot allow our country to be overrun by illegal immigrants," he tweeted.

The first lady's visit to Upbring New Hope Children's Center on Thursday comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting the practice of separating families. However, his policy of criminally prosecuting illegal border-crossers remains. Mrs. Trump, whose focus is on children, may have helped encourage her husband to act. The first lady said earlier through her spokeswoman that she "hates" to see families separated at the border. A White House official followed up Wednesday, saying Mrs.

As Air Force One shuttled President Donald Trump back to Washington following a boisterous heartland rally, hundreds of people filled the terminals at the president's hometown airport. The spontaneous demonstration at New York City's LaGuardia was sparked by rumors of the arrival of migrant children separated from their parents at the southern border. Waving signs and singing songs in English and Spanish, the crowd was both a welcoming party and rebuke of the White House policies that have split the country in recent days. More than 2,300 children have been separated under the administration's "zero tolerance" policy to criminally charge adult migrants.

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — President Donald Trump's reversal of a policy separating migrant families at the Mexico border sparked confusion over how the new guidelines will play out and deep concern that the changes don't go far enough, allowing children to still be held in detention even if they remain with their families. "We are pleased that the president is calling a halt to his inhumane and heartless policy of separating parents from their children," said Peter Schey, the lawyer in a lawsuit that resulted in a key agreement governing the treatment of migrant children in detention called the Flores settlement.

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 600 members of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' church have denounced him over the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy that has led to children being separated from their parents at the border. Members of the United Methodist Church from across the country signed a letter Monday accusing Sessions of child abuse, immorality and racial discrimination. They also chided Sessions for using biblical scripture to defend the policy, saying it runs counter to the church's doctrine. Sessions also was blasted in a separate letter signed by 75 former U.S. attorneys from both parties, who want Sessions to end the family separation policy at the border.

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order on Wednesday to keep families together amid a furor over his policy of separating children from their parents when they’re caught illegally crossing the U.S. border with Mexico. Trump didn’t immediately elaborate on the order during remarks in a meeting with U.S. lawmakers at the White House attended by the press. Trump said he faced a dilemma between what he considered weak border enforcement policies that allowed too many undocumented immigrants into the country. But he said stricter border enforcement stirred accusations that “you don’t have any heart,” then added “perhaps I’d rather be strong.
