Scorching heat baked much of Northern California Saturday, as temperatures climbed in the the Napa and Sonoma valleys and across the North Bay hills. The National Weather Service in San Francisco issued a heat advisory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. By 5 p.m., the weather service had recorded highs of 101 in Concord, 98 in Livermore and Santa Rosa, 92 at the San Francisco International Airport and 68 in downtown San Francisco, according to meteorologist Will Pi. Sweltering, dry air coupled with strong northerly winds put the region at risk for wildfires, and forecasters noted that any fires that start could spread rapidly.
